Horizon Fanfare is a composition that captures the essence of conferences like the 56th International Horn Symposium for which it was commissioned.
The piece begins with a vibrant celebration, symbolizing musicians gathering from various parts of the world. Following this, a brief exchange of sixteenth note groupings between high and low horns represents a dialogue, reflecting the exchange of ideas and experiences typical of such symposiums.
Throughout the middle section, the recurring sixteenth note motif signifies contemplation on the newfound knowledge and insights gained during the symposium.
Finally, the opening fanfare returns with renewed joy from a reinvigorated sense of enthusiasm and inspiration.
The title, Horizon Fanfare reflects the theme of IHS 56 (“Horns on the Horizon”) and encapsulates the spirit of the composition, highlighting the expansive horizon of possibilities in music and collaboration.
